I do love camping

I had forgotten how much I really enjoy camping until I went out and did it this week. Because it has been winter, I haven’t had a chance to go pack up a mini-van load of stuff with my family and rough it in the outdoors.

I went with my brother, my sister, my mom, and my boyfriend. Which was quite a random group, but a fun one as well. The three girls slept in our very large eight person tent, and the boys slept in the very small backpacking tent.

We went to Goblin Valley, which is out in the middle of nowhere, and contains lots of sandstone and little else. But our campground was superb, we only forgot a few things (mostly we brought too much), and I just had a few days to get dirty, smell like smoke from the campfire, and enjoy life.

No cell phone. No computer. And really, no thought about what I could be missing.

We went on a eight-mile hike through slot canyons, and we cooked smores with Reese’s peanut butter cups and cookies ‘n cream chocolate bars. I slept warm, and I got to see sunrises and sunsets and more stars than I have seen in a long time.

So camping is something that I never want to give up–I am good at setting up and taking down tents, and I just the feeling of waking up in the morning, and being free.

  1. Hey! Your trip sounds EXACTLY like what Brian and I did the first year we were married! Hiked Little Wild Horse Canyon and played around (and camped at) Goblin Valley! We had a fun time too. That area is SO neat! 🙂
